July TAP Events
- July 1 and 15 (Thursday) - Art Classes for Children
At the TAP office in Charleston, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
TAP is offering art classes for children twice per month throughout the summer (and possibly longer, depending on the response and scheduling considerations.) This is a free program that is open to all children in the community, but preregistration is required. If you have a child who would like to attend but is not yet registered, please contact Teasha at teashawalker@ctfillinois.org or (217) 348-3869, x10 with the names and ages of all children who will be attending. Please note: parents should ensure that their children wear clothing appropriate for activities involving paint.
- July 6 and 20 (Tuesday) - Play Group
At the TAP office in Charleston, 6:00 p.m.
Play group will be held on alternating weeks throughout the summer. All children who usually attend Social Skills are invited to participate in this less formal group we are having for the summer. If you would like your child to participate but he or she has not previously participated in Social Skills or play group, please contact Teasha at (217) 348-3869, x10 for registration information.
- July 7 (Wednesday) - "Dr. Leventhal Presents..."
At the TAP office in Charleston, 8:30-9:30 a.m.
The topic for this 1-hour teleconference session will be "Seizure Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorder," and is open to professionals, parents, or any interested community member free of charge. These monthly informative sessions are presented by Dr. Bennett Leventhal, M.D. If you would like to attend, please contact Teasha at (217) 348-3869 or teashawalker@ctfillinois.org to register.
- July 8 (Thursday) - Case Consultation with Dr. Leventhal
At the TAP office in Charleston, 8:30-9:30 am
These monthly sessions are conducted via video conference and are open to professionals who work with individuals who have autism. If you would like to attend, or if you have a case you would like to present for Dr. Leventhal's input, please contact Teasha at (217) 348-3869, x10 or teashawalker@ctfillinois.org.
- July 17 (Saturday) - Young Adult Club of Champaign: Lunch and a Movie

- July 17 (Saturday) - Indoor Rummage Sale
At the TAP office in Charleston, 7:00 am-1:00 pm
All families associated with TAP at CTF are invited to set up a booth or table and sell your unused/unwanted items. We are providing the location and the advertising, and you are providing the merchandise and the "sales staff." And you get to keep all the profits from your sales! Setup will take place Friday evening July 16 at 6:00 pm. To reserve your spot, call (217) 348-3869, x10 and speak to Teasha about your space requirements and setup needs.
- July 17 (Saturday) - Sibshop Refreshment Booth at the Rummage Sale
At the TAP office in Charleston, 7:00 am-1:00 pm
Members of Sibshop (TAP at CTF's sibling support group) are invited to attend the rummage sale on July 17 and help run the Sibshop refreshment booth. The refreshments to sell will be provided. All profits from the refreshment booth will be used to help pay for a future Sibshop event. Come and join in the fun with your friends from Sibshop!
- July 21 (Wednesday) - Skill Spotlight
At the TAP office in Charleston, 9:00-10:00 am
This month's topic is "Current Autism Research: A Literature Review of the Year Thus Far." Skill Spotlight sessions are free presentations made via video conference by TAP's lead trainer, Christopher Flint. These sessions are appropriate for professionals, parents, and interested community members. If you would like to attend, please contact Teasha at teashawalker@ctfillinois.org or (217) 348-3869, x10.
- July 25 (Sunday) - Sibshop (Sibling Support Group)
At the TAP office in Charleston, 2:00-3:30 pm
This is our monthly Sibshop activity. It's a surprise! This activity is for members of Sibshop only. Please RSVP to Teasha at (217) 348-3869 or teashawalker@ctfillinois.org.
- July 31 (Saturday) - Young Adult Club of Champaign: Champaign County Fair
Time and meeting place to be announced
A fun time of eating fair food, riding the rides, and seeing the exhibits. We sill be staying until 4:00 pm. This is "bracelet day," which means you can pay one price of $20 per person for unlimited rides. If you do not want to buy a bracelet, ride tickets are $1.25 per ticket, and most rides require 3 tickets. More information coming soon. - Disability Legislative Forum--Wednesday, August 11
7:00-8:30 pm, Brookens Gymnasium in Urbana, IL
Address: 1776 E. Washington St, POD 400. We are all too familiar with the Illinois state budget and the annual impact it has on funding and services for people with disabilities. This forum is a call to action for legislators and we hope to fill the room with concerned citizens (aka: VOTERS!) which includes individuals, families, advocates and providers alike!
